Belgrade hosts lots of interesting events and festivals during the whole year. Some of those are well known all over the world; the most important events in Belgrade are for example the Music Festival, the Film Festivals and the Beer Festival.
Belgrade Beer Festival
Belgrade Beer Festival is doubtless one of the events you should not miss when visiting Belgrade. An around-the-clock celebration of more than 20 brands beer combines with a great location and friendly prices (moreover the entrance is free), a great crowd of all ages and backgrounds and also an interesting music program. The Beer Fest rocks for a whole five days in mid-August. Come during the day to enjoy a cold beer in the sun with family or friends or come in the evening to rock'n'roll.
Belgrade Jazz Festival
Belgrade Jazz Festival is held every year in the last week of October, in the Youth Cultural Center (Dom Omladine, Makedonska 22) and other places in Belgrade (e.g. Dom sindikata main hall and Kolarčeva) and it lasts five days. Besides gigs of several international musicians, the festival usually includes a midnight program, jam sessions, photo exhibitions, movies and jazz workshops.
Furthermore Belgrade hosts the Summertime Jazz Festival that takes place in Belgrade's Sava Center usually in late June - early July.
The Belgrade International Film Festival usually is held from the last Friday in February to the end of the first week of March.
The FEST hosts lots of different and interesting presentation of cinematic ultimate art achievements in the world film industry.
The next 39th International Film Festival – FEST will be held in Belgrade, from 25th February to 6th March 2011.
Belgrade Music Festival is the most important music festival of Serbia after Exit. It is usually held in October in the halls of Sava centre, Foundation of Ilija M. Kolarac and other theatre houses in the town and it lasts for about 15 days.
Its program is very wide and includes several classical music concerts as well as operas, choirs, presentations of traditional music, ethno music as well as pieces of contemporary music production and children's workshops.
The Belgrade International Theatre Festival is an international competition aimed to show and reward all the new theatre trends, both Serbia and Montenegro trends and international trends. BITEF Held usually in September in several theatre houses of Belgrade, Sava Centre and town space and it lasts for about 15 days.
International Children Festival - Radost Evrope
The International Children Festival is an event aimed at letting children, coming from all over Europe, socializing and demonstrating their artistic creativity.
The event is held at the Children’s Cultural Centre of Belgrade, Sava Centre, Ada Ciganlija and galleries in the first week of October and it lasts one week. It is promoted by the Children’s Cultural Centre of Belgrade.
Guitar Art Festival
Belgrade Guitar Art Festival is a five-day international classical guitar festival held every year in August since 2001. It includes both practical classes and theoretical lectures with international professional musicians, exhibitions, concerts and a competition of young guitarists.
International Festival of New Music Ring Ring
Ring Ring is an international festival of New Music held in May each year for the last decade. It consists of several performances of bands coming from all over the world playing variations on traditional music with a popular twist. Tickets are affordable and available either for each night or for the whole festival.
Belgrade Festival of Documentary and Short Film
Belgrade Festival of Documentary and Short Film is a competition held in the last week of March and it lasts 4-5 days. Movies are divided per genres such as short feature film, documentary, animated and experimental film, produced in technique of film and video recording. Besides this Festival also hosts retrospectives of foreign festivals.
Belgrade Summer Festival is an international event usually held in the Summer (July-August). BELEF aims to introduce to Belgraders all the innovative artistic trends of theatre and dance, visual arts and music.
BELEF is usually located in several squares and streets of Belgrade, theatres and other city venues.
Belgrade Book Fair is an international event of book publishers and bookstores. Held at the end of October in the "Belgrade Fair" halls and lasting one week it aims to present domestic publishing production of domestic and foreign publishers between two fairs.
International Theatrical Belgrade Adventure - TIBA
International Theatrical Belgrade Adventure is an international competition of professional theatres for children. Held in June, for about ten days, in the houses of Belgrade Drama Theatre, Atelje 212, "Boško Buha" Theatre, "Duško Radović" Little Theatre, "Puž" Theatre and the National Theatre. The founder and promoter is "Boško Buha" Theatre.
The Museum Night is an exceptional event, held every year in May, not only in Belgrade but also in the main cities across Serbia. Museums, galleries and other exhibition spaces are opened to the public in ways they have never seen it before. Unique and interesting events, performances, concerts, fashion shows and thematic exhibitions, along with permanent museums exhibitions take place in just one night, offering a not to be missed occasion.
And.. not to miss near Belgrade:
Exit is held every year since 2000 over the 2nd weekend of July (usually for 4 days) in the Petrovaradin Fortress of Novi Sad (75 km from Belgrade). Exit is Serbia’s most massive music event. This musical festival gathers around 250,000 to 350,000 young people and since winning Best European Festival of 2007 in the UK Festival awards, Exit has become widely popular all over the world!
